In organic photovoltaic (OPV), covalently linked donor (D)–accepter (A) molecules hold enormous potential for the high efficient charge separation and the ideal control of ordered D–A heterojunctions. However, OPVs using single layer of D–A molecules have not shown high photo-conversion efficiency because of their effective charge recombination. We have designed the layer stackable Benzoporphyrin (BP)–fullerene (C60) triad molecule using thermal precursor method. Here we report the synthesis and application of BP–C60 triad molecules for OPV.
