Soft materials have been extensively studied for wide applications: wearable device, display, and so on. Detailed deformation behavior of such flexible soft materials is of great importance in terms of devices design. Here we proposed a surface-labelled grating method that can analyze deformation of film surfaces quantitatively and microscopically. In this study, silicone elastomer films with surface labeled gratings were fabricated, which is polydimethyl siloxane as representatives of soft materials. Deformation behavior of outer and inner surfaces in the bending PDMS films with different thicknesses was evaluated.
