[14p-2U-13] Sorting of Semiconducting, Large Diameter Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes:
Towards High Mobility Electronic Devices Application
Keywords:carbon nanotube,separation
Single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), in spite of their high potential as electronic devices, suffers from large structural diversities which determines their electronic properties. Separation methods, such as gel filtration, therefore are required to sort semiconducting (s-) SWCNTs for realizing high performances electronic devices. However, despite of many successful enrichment of s-SWCNTs with small diameter of less than 1.4 nm, few to no report has been found for the large diameter s-SWCNTs.
Here, we demonstrated pioneering work in sorting large diameter s-SWCNTs from pyrolytic-grown samples by a simple gel filtration. Confirmed by the optical absorption, Raman, and transmission electron microscopy, as large as 1.7 to 2.0 nm across s-SWCNTs has been successfully separated. In addition, diameter-based sorting of SWCNTs has also been obtained effortlessly due the broad diameter distribution of the sample.
