Surface plasmon (SP) excitation provides enhancement of fluorescence intensity and better sensitivity than conventional fluorescent immunoassay. However, the SP excitation requires optimal positioning of a prism to ensure optimum output of the incident light. We have developed a "V-trench biosensors" combining the V-shaped fluidic channels for detection. The V-trench biosensor can use the fluorescence enhancement caused by surface plasmon resonance excitation easily and at low cost. Recently, we proposed the use of quantum dots as a fluorescent label for the V-trench biosensor. Since the quantum dots have a large Stokes shift, we can effectively remove the exciting light and reduce background signals. In this study, we developed a V-trench sensor chip for the quantum dot fluorescent labels. Moreover, we attempted to detect the norovirus virus-like particles using the developed sensor chips.
