[15p-PB2-46] Preliminary Experiment of Laser Sustained Plasma Generation using High Power Laser Diode

Developments of thermal protection systems for re-entry vehicles, high enthalpy plasma wind tunnels are necessary to simulate severe aerodynamic heating conditions. In our previous research, a laser plasma wind tunnel using carbon dioxide laser was found to be a promising one as an alternative of conventional plasma wind tunnel. Since, however, the carbon dioxide laser has disadvantages of low energy efficiency and large device size, an actual simulator size wind tunnel of this method is not practical. Recent high power diode laser is high efficiency more than 50 %, low cost and a compact device. In this study, generating condition of laser plasma using high power diode laser is theoretically and experimentally investigated.
