An UCG gas, which is the production gas by underground coal gasification, is one of unutilized energy resources, but the utilization of the UCG gas requires desulfurization, because the UCG gas contains CH4, H2, H2S and so on. In this work, the desulfurization characteristics of the artificial UCG gas, which is the mixture gas of N2, CO2, H2 and H2S, are investigated using a packed-bed dielectric barrier discharge (PB-DBD). A PB-DBD reactor with TiO2 balls is arranged on the subsequent stage of a PB-DBD reactor with glass balls, and the artificial UCG gas filled in a gas holder is circulated to the reactors. The artificial UCG gas is desulfurized at the high decomposition efficiency of H2S without SO2 production.
