△ [16a-2F-11] Athermal Backward Operation of Waveguide Optical Isolator on Silicon Platform

Optical isolators are important devices for the high-speed modulation and highly coherent operation of laser diodes. We have developed a waveguide optical isolator on a silicon platform with a cladding layer of a magneto-optical garnet. However, a matter of the temperature dependence which causes the wavelength shift is left unsolved so far.In this report, we investigate unknown temperature properties of the refractive index and magneto-optical coefficient of a magneto-optic garnet Ce:YIG, and succeed in fabricating and demonstrating the athermal backward operation. The temperature properties are determined by measuring and analyzing the wavelength shift. In the fabricated device, the high isolation over 20 dB is maintained as the temperature changes at 20–60℃.
