[16a-2J-1] A Terahertz Transceiver Composed of Photonic Crystal and Resonant Tunneling Diodes

Developing compact and integrated THz-wave devices is required to open new possible applications such as spectroscopic sensing, nondestructive imaging and ultra-broadband wireless communications. We focus on a two-dimensional photonic crystal where sufficient confinement of THz waves can be achieved in a thin dielectric structure with ultralow loss, as a THz-wave integration platform. So far, we have demonstrated the waveguide, the diplexer and the I/O coupler. We have also developed resonant tunneling diodes as a THz transmitter and a THz receiver. In this study, we report on a THz transceiver composed of the photonic-crystal components and resonant tunneling diodes.
