An optical fiber type online dosimeter analyzing an exposure dose to a patient in real time for proton beam therapy has been developed. In order to evaluate a measurability of Nd:YAG for proton beam, a prototype detecting infrared luminescence emitted by Nd:YAG in single photon counting mode was manufactured. The Bragg curve by proton beam irradiation of 220 MeV was measured in the proton beam therapy center of the Hokkaido University. It was confirmed that the position precision of the proton beam range was within +/- 1.0 mm. The feasibility of the optical fiber type online dosimeter as a relative dosimeter was indicated from this result.
