An inkjet device depicts a promising future with application extending to printing, encapsulation, and chemical synthesis. Microdroplets created by inkjet are peculiar in that they measure only 10 µm while flying at 10 m/s. In such a small yet fast system, accurate measurement of the physical properties of the microdroplets, including their size, proves to be difficult. Although a few methods for size measurement have been established by previous works, none has been able to fulfill the requirement for a simple, speedy, and accurate measurement. Here, we introduce an in situ size measurement method via forward light scattering. By comparing the result with a numerical analysis, we came up with a simple algorithm to estimate the radius with precision under 1%.
