[13p-C302-8] Resonant nanoparticles as efficient sunlight absorbers and their thermal applications
Keywords:photothermal conversion, sunlight, nanoparticles
Titanium nanoparticles (TiN) show broad plasmonic resonances in optical range, which is suitable for sunlight absorption. We experimentally demonstrate that TiN nanoparticles dispersed in water can absorb nearly 90 % of the incoming sunlight. Another class of optical resonance excited in a nanoparticle is Mie resonance. We prepared a set of silicon nanopartilces having size distribution and showed that such silicon nanoparticles are broadband absorbers covering majority of solar spectrum. As nanoparticles are in direct contact with water and locally heat water, nanoparticles can be efficient form of sunlight absorbers for heating and distilling water.
