To develop the visible-light response of TiO2, various heterogeneous elements have been doped in the lattice of TiO2. Since the ionic radius of the heterogeneous element is different from the elements consisting of TiO2, the doping of the heterogeneous elements is accompanied by the lattice distortion of TiO2. However, the effect of the lattice distortion of TiO2 on the photocatalytic activity has not been clear. In this work, we examined the effects of the lattice distorted TiO2 films epitaxially grown on the lattice-expanded substrates on the photocatalytic activity.
