Keywords:solar-pumped laser

A solar pumped laser is a device that converts incoherent sunlight into a coherent laser beam. In recent years, solar pumped lasers have been attracting much attention as novel renewable energy sources in optical communications, energy transfer in space and an energy cycle using magnesium. So far, we have realized a solar-pumped fiber laser using a Nd-doped ZBLAN double-clad fiber with dielectric multilayers at the both ends of the Nd-doped ZBLAN fiber. It is expected that fiber Bragg grating (FBG) would be preferable to achieve high-power and effiency. In this paper, we construct a solar pumped fiber laser using a Nd-doped ZBLAN double-clad fiber as a laser medium and silica fiber Bragg gratings as a cavity mirrors and demonstrated laser oscillation of the solar-pumped fiber laser.
