We review snapshot spectral imaging and the applications where it provides important measurement advantages. After surveying the various instruments that have been invented to achieve snapshot spectral imaging, we show examples of recent measurements. Finally, we sketch the computational problems encountered by using these instruments in real-time and how these can be addressed.
