[14a-P5-4] Photoresponse Behavior of Coumarin Dyes with Benzothiazole Moiety in Nematic Liquid Crystals

In this study, we explored photoresponsive behavior of Coumarin Dyes, Coumarin 6, Coumarin 545 and Coumarin 545T with Benzothiazole Moiety in Nematic Liquid Crystals to elucidate their correlation between molecular structures of the dye and photoalinment behavior.
Multiple diffraction rings were observed in the LC sample cells doped with Coumarin 545 and Coumarin 545T when the cells were irradiated with a laser beam over threshold intensities, indicating the both coumarins function as photoalinment dyes such as Coumarin 6. The appeared multiple diffraction rings were disappeared in the sample cells doped with Coumarin 545 and Coumarin 545T during irradiation of the laser beam.
