[14p-A25-21] Observation of Grain- and Sub-grain boundary in Silica Colloidal Crystals

The grain boundaries and sub-grain boundaries in sedimentation grown silica colloidal crystals are examined by SEM. Two kinds of grain boundaris, directly contacted and buffered by an amorphous thin interface layer, are observed. Subgrain boundaries are rather difficult to perceive.
