[14p-B3-4] Determination of the absolute signs of Kerr coefficients of uniaxial and isometric crystals

Kuniharu Takizawa1, Lianhua Jin2 (1.Hamamatsu Photo. CRL, 2.Univ. Yamanashi)

Keywords:Kerr effect, Kerr coefficient, absolute sign

The Kerr effect plays an important role in the field of photonics such as high-speed optical modulation and ultra-short light pulse control. However, the sign of the Kerr coefficient is not measured in most of the crystal. This is because a refractive index change due to the Kerr effect is very small. To solve this problem, we have proposed a method of measuring the absolute values and absolute signs of the Kerr coefficients of the tetragonal, hexagonal and isometric systems using the coordinate transformation and the eigenvalue equation.
