[14p-C31-11] Nanostructure formation on gold thin film by femtosecond laser irradiation

Fabrication of periodic surface structures on gold surfaces by femtosecond laser irradiation is challenging due to occurrence of significant thermal effects. We demonstrate the formation of gold periodic nano/microstructures by femtosecond laser irradiation, whose periodicity depends on the gold film thickness. Electric field intensity distribution in ultra-thin metal films might affect the periodicity of the structure. Gold nano/microstructures fabricated by using this method have potential to be applied to novel photonic/plasmonic devices or two dimensional metamaterials.
