Electronic spin associated with the nitrogen-vacancy (NV) color center in diamond is a promising platform for nanoscale quantum computation. Optically-detected magnetic resonance allows coherent quantum control of NV spins. However, its precision is fundamentally limited by the optical diffraction. Here we present new methods for imaging and controlling NV centers beyond the optical diffraction limit by use of magnetic field gradients. These techniques enable nanoscale mapping and selective control of proximal NV centers as close as 100 nm. We also discuss novel ideas to couple these spins toward room-temperature quantum information processing.
