Graphene, as the first successful exfoliated two dimensional material, is the promising candidate for next generation electronics due to its outstanding physical and chemical properties. There is urgent need to understand native electronic properties of graphene. Investigation of surface plasmons induced by incident field is frequently used to characterize electronic properties of materials and has been applied on graphene/SiO2 sample. However, the observed plasmon waves near the edge of graphene were surmised to be affected by underlying substrate. To understand the native plasmonic effect of graphene film, we prepared circularly suspended graphene film on gold or SiO2 substrate and used micro Raman spectroscopy to characterize them. Raman mapping results show that surface plasmons were excited over the suspended region by 632nm laser incidence. This was not observed in a previous study on standing graphenes, showing the surface plasmon excitation only in the infrared regime. This result could help designing more sensitive electronics like bio-sensor.
