Multiple quantum wells (MQWs) are one potential material to enhance the conversion efficiency of multi-junction solar cells. However, due to their photocarrier trapping characteristics, the design of MQW structures for improving carrier extraction is needed. By approximately expressing their complicated carrier dynamics as an "effective mobility," a universal evaluation parameter for a variety of MQW structures becomes avaliable and, moreover, performance prediction and structure design become possible. In this study, we investigate this effective-mobility approximation in both theoretical and experimental approaches.
