We investigate a GaN/AlGaN-based photonic crystal thermal emitter design utilizing a low-refractive index substrate in order to realize a large-area thermal emitter. We show that GaN/AlGaN thermal emitter on the substrate can also give a single-peak narrow-band emission spectrum and high peak-emissivity.
