Guided-mode-resonance (GMR) biosensors have attracted increasing attention for bio-medical detection and chemical analysis. Higher sensitivity and lower detection limit are necessary for biosensors to achieve sensitive detection for practical applications. Here we investigate the effect of waveguide layer thickness on the sensitivity of injection-molded GMR biosensors. The results show that the waveguide layer thickness significantly affects the sensitivity of GMR biosensors, and exists an optimal value to achieve highest sensitivity. These results are useful for optimizing the geometry of GMR biosensors to achieve high sensitivity for sensitive label-free detection.
