[15p-P14-10] RPL in Sm-doped BaF2-Al2O3-B2O3 Glass Ceramics

We have observed RPL in Sm-doped BaF2-Al2O3-B2O3 glass ceramics. The materials were obtained by annealing melt-quenched glass at temperatures above 525oC. The annealing induces BaAlBO3F2 crystal phase and activates the RPL properties. By X-ray irradiation, Sm3+ ion was reduced to Sm2+ showing intense NIR photoluminescence. Without the BaAlBO3F2 crystallites included in the samples, this phenomenon was not observed.
