[15p-P14-10] RPL in Sm-doped BaF₂-Al₂O₃-B₂O₃ Glass Ceramics

We have observed RPL in Sm-doped BaF₂-Al₂O₃-B₂O₃ glass ceramics. The materials were obtained by annealing melt-quenched glass at temperatures above 525^oC. The annealing induces BaAlBO₃F₂ crystal phase and activates the RPL properties. By X-ray irradiation, Sm³⁺ ion was reduced to Sm²⁺ showing intense NIR photoluminescence. Without the BaAlBO₃F₂ crystallites included in the samples, this phenomenon was not observed.
