Surgical operation is typically used for cancer treatment. However, it is difficult to remove all tumors if they are widely distributed and deep seated behind organs. PET can image tumors for almost whole body, but it was not used for surgical guide because of its closed shape and required imaging time of several minutes. In this study, we applied our open-type PET system “OpenPET” for the intraoperative real-time PET system. For this presentation, we demonstrated the OpenPET-guided surgery system using a mouse. As a result, while the identification of the location took 10-30 s of measurement time at this stage, we could successfully isolate a tumor located deep inside the mouse abdomen.
