△ [16a-B5-9] Nonlinear Optical Property of Polydiacetylene Nanofibers/Noble Metal Nanoparticles Hybrid Thin Films

Polydiacetylene (PDA) is one of the promising organic materials for realizing ultrafast photonic devices, because PDA has high third-order nonlinear optical (NLO) susceptibility χ(3) value in femto-second region, due to well-defined π-conjugated main chain. Recently, our research group has found that Poly[1,6-di(N-carbazolyl)-2,4-hexadiyne] (PolyDCHD) nanofibers (NFs) provide larger χ(3) value than that of bulk crystal. The χ(3) value of PolyDCHD NFs could be multiplied owing to orientation effect, because the direction of one-dimensional main chain in PolyDCHD is parallel to the longitudinal axis of NFs. In addition, localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of noble metal nanoparticles (NPs) would enable to enlarge effective χ(3) value of NFs, since these NPs could concentrate light energy into nano-spaces. In the present research, we have tried to fabricate superior nanomaterials to bulk crystal by making NFs/metal hybrid orientated films toward future photonic application.
We have succeeded in fabricating well-defined PolyDCHD NFs by reprecipitation method using suitable surfactant, and then both orientated NFs and NFs/metal hybrid films have been fabricated. In particular, NFs/metal hybrid films took sandwich structure, which was composed of orientated PDA NFs layer and two metal NPs layers. Transient transmission spectra and complex refractive index were measured with pump-probe method and spectroscopic ellipsometry, respectively. As a result, χ(3) value was enhanced the most in the case of PDA NFs/Ag NPs hybrid orientated film. The details of fabrication process and effects of hybridization with NPs will be reported on that day.
