Self-assembled molecular corrals were prepared on Si(111)-(7×7) surface after exposing to pyrrole gas. Pyrrole molecules selectively get adsorbed onto center adatom sites enclosing corner adatoms. The surface was then exposed to trimethylphosphine (TMP) which datively get absorbed on to enclosed corner adatom sites. The dynamic motion of confined TMP molecules in pyrrole molecular corral was observed using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) techniques. A single molecular memory device or switch can be fabricated if the movement of the TMP adsorbate inside the molecular fence can be controlled. STM measurement conditions were varied, and its effect on the dynamic motion of TMP adsorbed was observed. TMP movement occurs more frequently at lower sample bias voltages, and movement gets limited when increasing the bias voltage. But changing the tunneling current conditions do not have any significant effect on the TMP dynamic motion. The change in the dynamic motion may be attributed to the shallow electric states present in TMP. At lower bias condition these electronic states get stimulated efficiently making TMP molecules to move.
