[19a-H113-7] Nanoscale Analysis of Titanium Dioxide Surfaces Immersed in Simulated Body Fluid
Keywords:titanium dioxide,calcium phosphate,simulated body fluid
Atomic force microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy techniques were used to study the precipitation of calcium phosphate on rutile titanium dioxide (TiO2) (110) surfaces immersed in Hank's buffered salt solution. While calcium phosphate nanoparticles appeared on the TiO2 surface annealed in air then subsequently immersed, the particles were not observed on the surface annealed in air followed by further annealing in O2. Further to this, boiling the air-annealed surface in water also suppressed the precipitation of the particles. The precipitation process of calcium phosphate is discussed on the basis of the surface structure of the TiO2.
