A new type of mass analyzer introducing two electrodynamic fields is described. An ion beam is injected into the analyzer which has two rotating electric field units lined in coaxial manner, where the period of electric field rotation is chosen to be equal to the transit time of an ion having mass of interest (specified mass ion). Leaving the analyzer, specified mass ions, without reference to mass value, travel along the central axis, whereas other ions travel apart from the central axis tracing hollow cones, thus enabling continuous mass analysis. The above physical phenomena make the analyzer to have an extremely wide mass range, despite its hand-held body.
