[19p-W323-12] Direct observation of phase transition process of DDAB planar lipid bilayer

We investigated the phase transition process of planar lipid bilayer which was constructed cationic lipid (DDAB) using fluorescence microscope. Phase separation occurred during cooling from liquid crystal phase and three phases were observed. Comparing with the differential scanning calorimetry of DDAB vesicle, it is considered that crystal phase and gel phase appeared in liquid crystal phase. It is suggested that there are two types of phase separation occurred (from liquid crystal phase to gel phase and from liquid crystal phase to crystal phase) during cooling in DDAB planar lipid bilayer.
