Nanoscale chain structures such as protein termini are distributed at solid/liquid interfaces. Direct visualization of their molecular-scale structures is difficult with any established methods. We aimed to investigate such nanoscale chain structures distributed at solid/liquid interfaces by three-dimensional scanning force microscopy (3D-SFM). However, it was difficult to understand the visualization mechanism of nanoscale chains in the obtained 3D-SFM images. In this study, we performed molecular dynamics calculation of interaction forces acting on the tip for revealing the visualization mechanism.
