Here we newly developed a new neural electrode device with the polyimide-based flexible printed circuit and covered with silk fibroin. FPC allows the electrode to be implanted to hard-to-reach areas such as cerebellum and sulcus, while silk fibroin, which is a biocompatible and water soluble. This device aims to acquire neuronal recording from hard-to-reach areas such as cerebellum and sulcus, by just simply slip in the highly-flexible, silk fibroin protected device into the brain. Our results suggest the feasibility of long-term recording of neuronal activity from hard-to reach brain area such as subdural and inner sulcus spaces of large animals.
