[20p-S321-13] Proposal of fast beam switching operation using a two-dimensional cavity laser diode

We are studying quasi-stadium laser diodes with two-dimensional cavities consisting of two curved end mirrors and two straight sidewall mirrors. In this work, we propose fast beam switching operation using mode competition between the axial and diamond-shaped resonator modes. Numerical simulations based on rate equations revealed that switching time of a few nanoseconds can be expected.
