[20p-W241-2] Spin dependent quantum interference within ferromagnetic nanostructures

Keywords:scanning tunneling microscopy,magnetic nanostructures,spin polarization

Using spin-polarized STM, we found that spin polarization within a single magnetic nanostructure is not homogeneous but spatially modulated due to spin-dependent quantum interference. Here we discuss changes in both the sign and magnitude of the spin polarization on a subnanometer scale, and also discuss the potential of spin-polarized STM for investigating spin-resolved band structures.
