Development of single-photon detector using Si avalanche photodiode (Si APD) operating in sub-Geiger mode is reported. Sub-Geiger mode operation is a technique in which an APD is operated at a bias voltage that is lower than the breakdown voltage. We assembled a sub-Geiger mode single-photon detector using an Si APD with low noise charge sensitive amplifier.
