Electronic and optoelectronic properties of graphene oxide (GO) stem from the decoration with the oxygen-containing functional groups, resulting in a mixture of sp2- and sp3-hybridized carbon domains. In this paper, we present results for the nano-scale observation of GO on Au(111) covered with the octanethiolate (C8S) self-assembled monolayer (SAM) using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and spectroscopy (STS).
