A UV-curable liquid crystal and the photopolymerization with a photomask can make a patterned liquid crystal cell composed of polymerized isotropic phase and liquid crystal phase areas. Random optical textures in a liquid crystal phase can be applied to security devices as unique information. In this study, evaluation of patterns of schlieren texture in patterned nematic liquid crystal cells has been studied.
