Practical nanolasers are crucial for the realization of dense integration of nanophotonics and electronics. While plasmonic nanolasers are useful for reducing the size of nanolasers, the realization of plasmonic lasing beyond cryostatic temperatures still remains a challenge, especially in the technologically important near infrared region. A promising solution to this issue is to use quantum dots, which can spatially confine carriers, as the gain medium. Having demonstrated a plasmonic nanowire laser based on quantum dot gain, we now show that such plasmonic quantum dot lasers have a better temperature performance compared to similar plasmonic lasers using bulk semiconductor as the gain medium.
