[21p-S422-2] Backward scattering of polarized light from semi-infinite planes: Monte Carlo simulations
Keywords:multiple scattering,polarization,Monte Carlo simulation
Much attention has been attracted by non-invasive techniques of diagnosing diseased parts based on light scattering from biological tissues. It is well-known that, when turbid slabs are illuminated by a thin collimated light, the polarization of backward scattered light displays radial patterns centered at the illumination point. In this study, the previous formulation of the mechanism producing the radial patterns is introduced, two-dimensional distributions of the polarization are simulated using a Monte Carlo method, and the characteristics of the turbid slabs are deduced from the distributions.
