The Seebeck coefficient of a test material is measured relative to a standard material Pt. Therefore, the Seebeck coefficient is only physical quantity of the figure of merit, which is not traceable to SI base units. In this study we have directly measured the absolute Seebeck coefficinet of platinum using YBCO superconduting thermocouple, apart from the conventional relative measurement to Pb reference.
