[22a-W833-10] Simulation study of detection of a cavity across a trajectory of a therapeutic carbon beam by measuring low energy photons
Keywords:electron bremsstrahlung,carbon beam therapy,beam monitoring
For carbon-beam therapy, if an unexpected air cavity appears across a trajectory of a beam, an unexpected shift of the Bargg-peak position occurs. Therefore, detection techniques of such cavity are important to avoid mistakes of irradiation. In this work, we studied the feasibility of detection of a cavity in a a acrylic target by use of a multi-slit-type gamma camera by Monte Carlo simulation. The result of the simulation shows that it is possible to detect the existence of the air cavity by measuring events having energy depositions of about 60 keV on detectors in the gamma camera.
