[5a-C14-3] Ultrafast Pulse Amplification Using Nonlinear Effects Within a Thuium-Doped Fiber

We have developed a broadband amplifier system based on Tm-doped ZBLAN fibers. In contrast to ordinary chirped-pulse amplifiers, where gain-narrowing limits the bandwidth of the amplified spectra, broad spectra are obtained by utilizing nonlinear effects within the amplifier fiber. Output pulses with a duration of 50 fs is achieved at an average output power of 2.5 W.
