[5p-A402-4] Beginning of Gravitational-wave Astronomy

Norikatsu Mio1 (1.PSC Univ. Tokyo)

Keywords:gravitational wave, laser interferometer

In February 2016, the US LIGO project announced that the first detection of the gravitational wave has been achieved. The existence of the gravitational wave was predicted by Einstein's general relativity theory, and after 100 years from the theoretical prediction, the gravitational wave has been directly detected. For the detection of gravitational waves, a huge laser interferometer of extremely high sensitivity is being used In Japan also a detector called KAGRA is under construction. In this presentation, I will report the significance of gravitational wave detection and its detection technology, and also the current status of KAGRA.
