△ [5p-S45-17] High-order harmonic generation from benzene molecules

In general, high-order harmonics generated from the isotropic media with linear polarization pulses consist of only odd-order harmonics. However, if benzene molecules are aligned in the circular polarization plane by the external field and radiated by circular polarization pulses, it is predicted that (6n±1)-order harmonics will be observed because of the six-fold symmetry of benzene molecules. First, we developed a method to supply benzene molecules with high enough density, and succeeded in generating high-order harmonics from benzene molecules. Now, in order to verify the above-mentioned selection rule, we try to observe harmonics by changing the intensity and ellipticity of the fundamental pulses with benzene molecules aligned in the circular polarization plane.
