In the synthesis of metallic nanoparticles via a liquid phase reduction method, the morphology and property of the product are strongly influenced by the various synthesis conditions; precursor, reductant, dispersant, pH, temperature and so on. Therefore, to synthesize the shape- and size-controlled nanoparticles, these conditions should be appropriately optimized. In the present work, we suggested the mixed potential measurement and the QCM (quartz crystal microbalance) measurement for monitoring the driving force for the reduction and the nucleation behavior in the solution. By these measurements, the formation process of nanoparticles was thermodynamically and kinetically visualized, which enables us to determine the optimal condition easily and quantitatively.
