[6p-A202-2] Terahertz magnon excitation by optical pulses in antiferromagnetic and ferrimagnetic oxides

Takuya Satoh1 (1.Kyushu Univ.)

Keywords:magnon, pump-probe technique, antiferromagnets and ferrimagnets

Antiferromagnetic resonance frequencies reaches few THz because of the exchange interaction between the magnetic sublattices. Exchange resonance modes between the magnetic sublattices in ferrimagnets also range in few hundred GHz. We employed time-resolved magneto-optical pump-probe technique to excite terahertz magnons in antiferromagnetic NiO, CoO, YMnO3, and ferrimagnetic rare earth iron garnet via the inverse Faraday effect and the inverse Cotton-Mouton effect.
