It has soon been a quarter of a century, since research and development of THz technologies broke through with applications to spectroscopy and imaging in the early 1990s. THz technologies were initially driven by a pulse laser technology and a nonlinear optics. Now, THz technologies have entered a new era towards industrial applications. This talk overviews advances in semiconductor photonics and electronics, and their applications to communications and sensing.
