[6p-PA3-10] Retardation modulation using electrostatically Au nanograting

We report retardation modulation using electrostatically driven Au nanograting. Gold nanograting induces giant birefringence at visible wavelength range. In this study, gold nanograting consists of alternately placed fixed beams and movable beams on a glass substrate is fabricated, and retardation modulation is demonstrated by actuating the movable beams in the direction normal to the device plane by electrostatic force. The device produces maximum retardation modulation quantity of 32.4 degrees at the wavelength of 624 nm.
