[6p-PA3-16] Control of Plasmon Resonance by Mode Coupling in Nanoparticles-on-Mirror Structures
Keywords:Plasmonics, Surface Plasmon Resonance, Mode Coupling
We observed a peak splitting of extinction spectra when silver nanoparticles were placed on a metal substrate through a thin glass spacer layer. This unique optical phenomenon should be due to the strong mode coupling of the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) through the mirror effect of the metal substrate. We also found that the resonance spectra became much larger and sharper, and also tunable by the spacer thickness of the structure. These results were reproduced by the FDTD simulations. We believe that the methods enable us to tune the SP resonance for wider wavelength range and bring new possibilities of applications to plasmonics.
