[7a-A401-3] Healthy volunteer study using the helmet-neck PET prototype
Keywords:PET, Helmet-type PET scanner, Brain PET
Diagnostic PET medicines for dementia are being developed, and the demands for dedicated brain PET scanners are expected to increase. In this study, we are developing the world's first helmet-type PET scanner as a high-rensitivity, high-resolution, and low-cost dedicated brain PET scanner. Dedicated brain PET scanners limit the measurement target to the head area with compact design so that we can siginificantly reduce the cost compared with whole-body scanners. Further, the helmet-type PET scanner can significantly increase the sensitivity by a hemispherical arrangement of detectors and an add-on detector compared with a conventional cylindrical PET scanner consisting of a similar number of detectors. This time, we conducted FDG-PET measurement of a healthy volunteer using the helmet-neck prototype having the add-on detector at neck position. As a result, the structure of the brain was clearly imaged even with a small amount of injection dose. We concluded that the helmet-neck PET has promissing performance for highly accurate brain imaging.
